LIBRARY FACILITY

Allama Rumi (R.A.) library is the central library of the college. The library is one of the best libraries of the J&K with all the modern facilities required to supplement the academic requirements of the students, teachers and staff. The library is housed in centrally located spacious well maintained building with ample light and fresh air. The library has well maintained following sections for its patrons.

SECTIONS

  • Lending Section :

    It is the biggest section of the library in terms of the number of books and diversity of collection. the lending section hosts text books that are issued to the patrons. it has collection on diverse subjects ranging from traditional subjects like English literature to recent modern subjects like food technology.The books are arranged neatly subject wise and in numbered shelves for easy accessibility.

  • Reference Section :

    The section comprises of books that can be used for references purposes only. the section has many rare and antique books manuscripts maps etc. the section is adequately equipped with updated collection to answer the reference queries of the patrons and provide them enough extended information. Encyclopedias, dictionaries, directories, etc. are available here.

  • Reading Room :

    The library has a well-lit spacious reading room where patrons can read latest as well as back issues of newspapers, journals, magazines etc. This section makes regularly available local, national dailies, weeklies and monthlies.

  • Reprographic Section :

    This section provides reprography facilities to students at nominal charges. Patrons can have Photostat / print copies of reading material, previous years question papers etc.

  • Career Corner :

    This section has collection of career oriented books to help patrons to crack various competitive examinations. The section has updated books on various entrance likenursing, PMT, NEET, JEE as well as civil service examinations like Upsc.JKPSC,etc.

  • Browsing Centres :

    The library has two browsing centers each for boys and girls, equipped with around 35 All in one desktops with high speed internet and power backup facilities.

  • Power backup :

    This section has modern power backup facilities to ensure round the clock operation of the library. Online heavy UPS, inverter and power generators are its main equipment.

  • Server room :

    The room houses the servers of the library management software.

LIBRARY AUTOMATION

The library is one of the first automated libraries of the J&K being automated in 2013 using SOUL 2.0. The library automation was further enriched through use of modern KOHA software and RFID technology. The college is among the first colleges of the north India to enable RFID technology in library automation. Taking clue from the library all other colleges of the state started implementing the same technology in their libraries for which special grants were made available by Higher Education department. The Important components of RFID technology are:

  • Self-Check in/ check out station :

    The station allows patrons to issue / return books without any human interface. the student has to place his RFID chip based and issue / return on the system.

  • Book Drop :

    The system allows the patrons to return books just by dropping in the system automatically and receive a printed Receipt.

  • Hand Held Scanner :

    The handheld device scans the RFID book tags within minutes thus helps in locating books, shelf rectification and stock control.

  • Security Gate :

    The RFID gate ensures that no one takes the book without properly issuing on his account from the library.

  • OPACS (Online Public Access Catalogue System) :

    The two systems provide access and location of books to students within seconds. the patrons can search the collection of the library through title, author, subject etc.

  • CCTV Surveillance :

    The library is secured through high end CCTV cameras monitoring every nook and corner of the library and its premises.
SERVICES

  • Lending :

    The library lends books to its patrons of different categories for different time period.

  • Reference :

    The library addresses to the needs of both long term as well as short term reference service .

  • Current Awareness service:

    The patrons are regularly updated about new arrivals, subscription and facilities.

  • Newspaper/ Journals :

    The rich diverse subscription of newspapers and journals provide recent updates to patrons.

  • Orientation :

    The library regularly gives training and orientation to fresher’s about facilities present and how to use them.

  • E-resources :

    The library hosts a rich e resources collection procured from NPTEL , CEC and other reputed consortia’s for distribution among patrons .the library subscribes to NLIST for patrons.

  • D-Cards :

    In-house, customized RFID chip based smart ID-card are provided to patrons.

  • Networked OPACs :

    Two OPAC terminals at the Entry serve to facilitate searching and reservation of books.

  • Departmental Libraries :

    Besides Central Library, special services through departmental libraries is provided to PG departments.

  • Hot & cold drinking water :

    The library provides hot and cold water to its patrons.

  • Reprography :

    Print / Xerox facilities are provided on nominal charges.

  • Project Assistance:

    The library provides assistance in literaturereview, reference management and information retrieval.

  • Library Automation Support :

    The library provides consultancy and support to other college and institutional libraries for automation etc.

  • Career Corner :

    The library provides rich collection, guidance and expert lectures to its students to crack different competitive exams for admissions and employment.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
  • Library timing: 9.00 am to 6.00 pm.
  • Circulation is only up to 3:00 pm.
  • Patrons have to mark on visitors register every time they enter library.
  • Utmost care have to be taken while using library items like computers, books etc. Any damage or mis-handling will attract strict actions including replacement of the item at the patrons cost.
  • Utmost silence and calm behavior have to be maintained in the library.
