PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE I warmly welcome everyone to Govt. Degree College Baramulla (Autonomous), situated on the 44th National Highway at Khawaja Bagh, the base of Fatehpora Hill. Our college is a co-educational institution founded in 1943.
In the present NEP-20 era, the Higher Education is taking enormous expansion and challenges to make India a knowledge power house. At present India’s median age is 28.2 years whereas that of China is 39 years. Hence an average Indian is 10 year younger to the average Chinees. India will have large skill pool for many years to come which is a positive parameter for country’s future economic growth. The curricula from pure academic has added value based co-curricular, professional extra-curricular and international market-oriented skill curricular aspects of higher education so that a skilled and highly professional human resource is available to the globe. This will not only eradicate the poverty of the country by way of providing them basic needs but will also put them in the frame work of skilled labour force.
Govt. Degree College Baramulla being an Autonomous Institution not only has excelled in imparting quality education to merit based selected students of the college but has privilege of offering professional NSQF based industrial skill courses certified by NSDC in addition of the academic skills within the campus. The college not only offers our students hard skills and soft skills but has the capacity to make them ready to face the real world by being equally competent in life-skills.
Having an Autonomous status, we are facing the pressure in terms of admission for all the students of J&K and due to overloading of students in various professional courses, there is deficiency in infrastructural facilities and human resources. In the campus, Skill Block, West Block, IIE Block are about to get completed, there are three more blocks to get started in due course of time in the form of Research Ecosystem Block, Food Science Technology Block and Examination Block. We proudly announce that a professional (3+1) course BP.Ed. will be introduced as stream in August 2023 besides subjects like Geology and Geography. We have challenges in the form of land dispute in east side, invasion by District Youth Services & Sports Council in the form of Indoor Stadium and occupation of building by District Agricultural Department. We hope Higher Education Department in consultation with the District Administration will sort it out in favour of the college for smooth functioning. Due care is being taken for providing the basic facilities to students in the form of lavatories, washrooms, canteens, parks, Wi-Fi campus, and a continuous upgrading and repairing of the infrastructure.
The college has taken lead in conducting conferences, seminars, workshops, skilled programmes not only to the faculty members and students but to the general public/school students of the district.
As a value-based institution, our endeavour is to inculcate in our students desire to evolve into a responsible human being. I extend my best wishes to all the new students joining us this academic session and I am confident that our students will wisely make use of every opportunity available to them.
