Year of establishment - 1943 The Under Graduate Department of Mathematics was established in the college in 1943. The aim of the Mathematics Department is to give the learners a sound understanding of Mathematics subject. In the Department of Mathematics, the highest priority is given to develop an understanding of Mathematics and other literature of their choice in the proper historical perspective. Also the aim of our department is to create an awareness of Mathematics in our society and to train our youth in the art of Mathematics. Mathematics is taught as one of the subject in both Arts and Science streams.

In April, 2005, as an achievement of the department, Post Graduate Course in Mathematics was approved by the Government and consequently classes of P.G. First semester were started in May, 2005. From 2005 to 2020, fourteen batches of Post Graduate students have been awarded degrees by the University of Kashmir through our department. At the initial stage, for under graduate classes in Mathematics, only two posts of teaching faculty were sanctioned. But after the inception of Post Graduate Course in our college, four more posts of teaching faculty have been sanctioned in 2013. More than four hundred students have obtained their post graduation degree through our P.G. Department since 2005. Among these, a good number of students got their placements in different job sectors, like Department of Planning, Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Statistical Services of J & K Government, Education Department, Insurance Companies and Banks.

During the consecutive eight years from 2009 to 2016, our PG Students remained among the toppers of students of University of Kashmir ( both in Main Campus & South Campus).
