Islamic studies generally refer to an academic multidisciplinary studies program similar to others where scholars from diverse disciplines participate and exchange ideas pertaining to the particular field of study, in this case, Islam.
Such academic programs often include the historical study of Islam: Islamic civilization, Islamic history and historiography, Islamic law, Islamic theology, Islamic Spirituality and Islamic philosophy. Specialists in the discipline apply methods adapted from several ancillary fields, ranging from Biblical studies and classical philology to modern history, legal history and sociology.
The study of different aspects of Islam, viz, social, political, economic and scientific knowledge is also included in it. As Islam provides divine guidance to Muslims and Humanity. Islamic Studies discusses all contemporary problems of life with reality, through its inter-disciplinary approach. It aims at overall personality building of an individual, purification and development of one’s knowledge, faith and character. Islamic studies aim at the revival of Islamic spirit among the students in order to make them responsible citizens at individual and global level.
It inculcates the moral and ethical values of life among the students, in order to eradicate social crimes like Adultery, Theft. Suicide and Drug Addiction The students are enriched with highest values of life, sense of sustainable development, respect for human beings, beyond the boundaries of Race, Colour and Faith.
Islamic studies was taught in limited colleges in Kashmir for the past thirty years. However, due to the increase in the interests of students towards this field, this subject was introduced in numerous colleges across the state. 1 am extremely thankful to the worthy Commissioner Secretary, Department of Higher Education for introducing the subject in this college. The efforts taken by the worthy principal, in attaining the speedy recognition of the said subject from the University of Kashmir, are extremely laudable.
