Year of establishment - 1996 Govt. Degree College (Boys) Baramulla has unique credit to be one of the first institutions of Jammu and Kashmir to start the Fisheries Education with the establishment of Department of Industrial Fish and Fisheries in 1996 with the aim to provide quality fisheries education to the stakeholders. The curriculum of under graduate course of Industrial Fish and Fisheries is designed to provide in-depth knowledge about different aspects of fisheries like fish biology, fish behavior, capture fisheries, aquaculture, ornamental fisheries, fisheries economics and fish processing technology. The course also provides vocational skills among the students to encourage entrepreneurship.
The Department comprises of well equipped laboratory, ornamental fish pool, aquarium section and fish pond. The Department has signed MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with State Fisheries Department, Govt. of Jammu and Kashmir, to facilitate field visits to different farms across the state in order to provide firsthand knowledge to the students about the recent developments in the culture fisheries.
Vision
TThe mission of the Department of Industrial Fish and Fisheries, Govt. Degree College Baramulla is to serve as a platform of fisheries education through teaching, demonstration, research, extension and creative work in fisheries comparable with national standards that will benefit the stakeholders.
