The Department of Computer Applications was established in year 2001, which enabled this College, to become valley’s first college to start Bachelors of Computer Applications (BCA). Initially an intake capacity of 40 seats was approved which was later enhanced up to 80 seats. The Department, since its inception, has produced quality manpower which has been absorbed by the industry/academic institutions and other organisations at local, national and international levels.

Besides normal class work, this department is actively involved in in-house software development and other related assignments which has so far helped the college in following areas Complete Automation of College Library Making Admission process online Online Attendance monitoring and evaluation Capacity building of teaching and non-teaching staff Providing Web interface to the College (www.baramullacollege.net) Establishment of smart class rooms and relevant training of staff Internet facility for all the teaching departments Internet facility for students through two internet browsing centres Establishment of printing centre for in-house printing of college newsletter Keeping in view the state of art infrastructure, faculty strength and performance of the Department, Govt. has recently approved MCA (a three year post graduate programme in computer science) for the department. The admissions for the said course will be done from academic session 2016.
